On March 5, a fresh accusation stated that Senator Menendez, in 2023, fraudulently represented to federal prosecutors in Manhattan that he believed home and car loan payments made for his wife by two businessmen were a loan and not a bribe. This information was conveyed through his former counsel.

In spite of calls to retire, including those from his fellow Democrats, the senior senator from New Jersey has stubbornly refused to step down. In response to the allegations that were made the previous year, he resigned from his position as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for a period of time.

On May 6, Senator Menendez, his wife Naeine Menendez, and other individuals, including businessmen Wael Hana and Fred Daibes, will be put on trial. Monday was also the day that Nadine Menendez, Hana, and Daibes entered not guilty pleas.

New allegations of obstruction of justice were brought against Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey and his wife, Nadine Menendez, on Monday. Both men entered not guilty pleas.

After being charged with 18 counts in an indictment that was handed down the previous week, Menendez and his wife did not speak as they entered the federal courthouse in Manhattan.

Both Fred Daibes and Wael Hana, both businessmen, entered not guilty pleas on Monday as well.

An attorney for Wael named Lawrence Lustberg stated that his client is not interested in making a settlement.

There is no way that my client is going to cooperate or enter a guilty plea. According to Lustberg, “Not only is he not guilty, but he is going to be found not guilty at trial.” According to that one cooperator, he does not have a lot to say about him. In spite of this, we are certain that we will be able to undermine his credibility to the extent that he does.

Additionally, Menendez is charged with serving as a foreign agent for the government of Egypt, which Hana is claimed to have relations to. Menendez has stated that he would not resign from his position.

“His actions will be shown not to be for the benefit of the government of Egypt,” remarked Lustberg in response.

During the arraignment, we were informed that the government intends to bring fingerprint and DNA specialists during the trial, which is set to begin on May 6th.

According to sources close to Menendez, a Democrat, claims that he is not running for reelection are untrue, according to interviews with CBS New York. As Menendez was leaving the courtroom, he stated that he has not completely ruled out the possibility of running as an independent candidate.

A court appearance by the senator is scheduled for the 30th of April.
