After extending his 23-year sentence in New York by 16, Weinstein, 70, will most likely spend the rest of his life behind bars. In addition to his conviction in Los Angeles, his defense team on the east coast is contesting his conviction in New York. The highest court in the state, the New York Court of Appeals, will hear Weinstein’s case.

Variety stated that Weinstein was found guilty of rape and sexual assault in New York at his criminal trial in 2020, and he is currently serving a 23-year sentence there.

According to Variety, Weinstein was found guilty on all three counts stemming from the testimony of Jane Doe, a European model who said she was sexually assaulted by the actor at the Mr. C Hotel following the 2013 L.A. Italia Film Festival.

More than a hundred women have accused Weinstein after coming forward in public to report decades-long allegations of sexual assault, abuse, and harassment. The #MeToo movement in 2017 set off his historic collapse, and the narrative of his survivors coming forward served as the impetus for the big-budget studio movie “She Said,” which debuted in theaters last year.

Weinstein has continuously defended himself against allegations of rape or assault, and his legal team has said time and time again that their client has been wrongly portrayed as the face of the #MeToo movement.
