Unfortunately, the vulnerability that enabled us to install Windows 11 on machines that did not qualify for the update has been patched… or has it?

There is a push from Microsoft to upgrade to Windows 11. In their statement confirming the end of support for versions 21H2 and 22H2, the company emphasized the need to update to version 22H3 in order to prevent security issues. However, there is a situation that seems contradictory for Microsoft: devices that aren’t compatible with each other’s hardware.

Some users with computers that aren’t compatible with Windows 11 will not be able to use it. Nevertheless, there are individuals who have succeeded in installing Windows 11 on older hardware by utilizing a command that circumvented component verification during installation.

Already, Microsoft is plotting to disable this command, making users either switch computers or make do with an older version if they wish to update.Everyone knew about it. To circumvent the TPM 2.0 requirements, simply add the /product server command to the installation.exe file. The system would then recognize the PC as a server. This outdated method is incompatible with Windows 11 Insider Build 27686 and later.

Although this practice has been introduced in previous versions, it has not yet made it to stable releases; thus, for the time being, the restriction is only applicable to this insider version. Windows 10, which Microsoft will cease supporting in October 2025, is currently installed by 70% of users.

This block will be applied to stable versions by Microsoft at some point, rendering this method of updating impossible. The obvious solution is to refrain from updating your PC to any official version in order to circumvent the blockage, especially if you intend to update to Windows 11 but have not yet done so.

Microsoft has blocked one of the methods to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware, which has caused a lot of panic over the weekend. It was reported by some news sites that this marked the final bypass.

Here are the details:

Version 25H2 of Windows 11 prevents a known exploit from evading the operating system’s hardware requirements.
Bypassing requirements could be achieved by running setup.exe with the parameter /product server.

A user-friendly app called PC Health Check was developed by Microsoft. This app verifies that the PC you’re using is compatible with Windows 11.

We don’t yet know how many Windows 10 and earlier PCs won’t work with Windows 11. Canalys Research projected that 240 million devices would remain on Windows 10 due to incompatibilities in 2023.

To get around Windows 11’s hardware requirements, Microsoft came up with a few different ways.

The previously mentioned setup parameter was one of them. It was well-received by administrators due to the fact that it did not necessitate any changes to the Registry or preparation of the Windows 11 ISO image.

Microsoft fixed the option in Windows 11 insider build 27686, according to Windows enthusiast Bob Pony.

Because of the “This PC can’t run Windows Server” error, Windows 11 setup terminated the installation process.

They are other ways around it. Rufus and Ventoy are among the programs that can prepare installation media to avoid these checks. Because it eliminates the need to manually alter Registry keys, this method is very convenient.
