My worst theater movie: 'Wild Wild West'

‘Wild Wild West’ (1999), directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starring Will Smith, Kevin Kline, and Kenneth Branagh, is yet another of those terrible films that I have the unfortunate experience of watching in a theater. This film is intolerable, dull, excessive, and wasteful. The production of a blockbuster movie, which was attempting to become the blockbuster of the summer, would have required an excessive amount of financial resources.

However, the fact of the matter is that it turned out to be one of those clear examples in which even having an exorbitant budget and choosing the best ingredients does not guarantee that the outcome will be satisfactory. Additionally, the abundance of special effects and notable names for the film were combined with the incorrect recipe, which leads to the film’s failure.

Ingredients of the highest quality for a dish that cannot be digested. A terrible script that does not support this audacious attempt to bring science fiction to the western setting is the root cause of all of these undesirable outcomes.

As a result of the fact that it is a blockbuster that appears to be interesting and has an original basis, to a certain extent, but that brings together a trio of actors who are very different from one another, with a production design that was intended to make history, but that falls apart after a few minutes of viewing it, it is one of those films that generates a certain amount of expectation.

a plot that is absurd, simplistic, and implausible; it is full of unresolved nonsense, loopholes, and ups and downs that ultimately result in the viewer losing interest in a story in which action is the only thing that can save them. Only that is the one thing that has the potential to save this title from being destroyed.

Even though there are competent actors who are able to resolve comedic and action situations, such as Will Smith or Kevin Kline, the characters are too flat. This is in addition to the fact that the script is impossible to write, which is the result of an excessive number of revisions and an excessive number of hands (six credited screenwriters and surely some more who are not mentioned). On the other hand, they are devoid of charisma, and their outward appearances are completely uninteresting (what does Salma Hayek’s role contribute other than her physique?).

It was an attempt to create a movie that would appeal to all audiences and would leave the entire family speechless with its incredible special effects and fantastic sets. In order to accomplish this, Bo Welch was involved, which is a guarantee of quality. Additionally, Michael Ballhaus was responsible for the photography, and Elmer Bernstein was the brilliant composer who composed the accompanying scores. Nevertheless, despite all of this, a minimum of sense is not achieved, which results in the waste of the style that was supposed to follow in the footsteps of “Men in Black” (which was directed by Sonnenfeld himself), but which ultimately fails to sink with resounding success.

The spectacular special effects (the mechanical spider is a waste) partially manage to make us forget the boredom, but in particular, they did not eliminate the bad taste in my mouth that was left by the story that could have been and was not. Despite the fact that the film is insufferable, and that for almost an hour nothing of interest happens until the action arrives, the spectacular special effects manage to make us forget the boredom. With reluctance, I would like to draw attention to the wonderful opening credits, which were designed by Kyle Cooper (after which it is best to stop watching the film), and of course, Bernstein’s score, which is deserving of being accompanied by a more impressive film.

However, to put the cherry on top of everything, the magnificent musical work was overshadowed by the main theme of the film, which was a rap that was performed by the protagonist himself.
